The Jaguar XJ-SC 3.6 on tour in Yorkshire

The Jaguar XJ-SC marked a return to convertibles for Jaguar after a ten year break. This car was first registered in August 1987 and has covered 76,000 miles. fitted with the new AJ6 six cylinder 3.6 engine and manual gearbox. We prefer this to the more complex, thirsty and older 5.3 V12 engine also used in this model.

According to www.howmanyleft.co.uk there are 15 of this 1987 model of XJ-SC left on the road.

Jaguar XJ-SC Exterior

The Jaguar  is in silver birch with black fabric roof. The paintwork is in good condition with only one or two minor stone chips at the front. The body is in good condition and benefitted from Waxoyl rust proofing carried out in 2003.

The roof features a targa style bar. In front of the bar there are two removable panels over the front seats, each operated separately. To the rear is a folding fabric roof section incorporating the rear window. This gives an option of keeping the rear section up,  not available on most convertibles. This in turn minimises wind buffeting around the XJ-SC cabin for an impressively quiet and  more civilised open top driving experience.

Jaguar XJ-SC ready to explore Yorkshire’s country roads

Jaguar XJ-SC interior

This Jaguar was designed as a grand tourer. The front seats and legroom reflect this with comfort for the tallest of drivers and passengers. Our car has the seats finished in cream tweed with cream leather trim.

The standard model had two seats and a rear parcel shelf, but this car has cream leather rear seats. The layout of the car means these are strictly for small children.

Jaguar included all mod cons for 1987 in the car. It has electric windows and a trip computer!

Jaguar XJ-SC conclusion

The long low lines of the Jaguar XJ-SC made this cabriolet more attractive than the coupe it is based on . It was a welcome return to open top motoring for Jaguar when introduced. This is a car to enjoy in the summer, with the roof panels stored away, soaking up the miles on sweeping country roads.
