Summer Sun and Classic Cars
The 2018 fantastic summer gave no end of excuses to roll out the classic cars and show them off. My favourites were little local affairs at Boston Spa as part of the village gala, and a gathering of cars at Bowcliffe Hall.
Classic cars in all shapes and sizes turned up for the brief morning show. The boy scouts were out selling bacon butties and coffee to get us all started. The summer sun was already blisteringly hot at 10 in the morning.
There was the option of a run out for lunch with a route to Pateley Bridge. We were kept entertained all day by the great views in this most beautiful part of Yorkshire. The mildly distressing blue smoke emerging from the TR4A in front of us did not spoil the view. A few litres of diesel had been pumped in apparently. The engineer driving it assured us that it was OK to just burn through it. Lets hope he is right.
We headed for the Bridge Inn on the Low Wath Road outside Pateley Bridge for a steak sandwich and pint lunch. www.thebridgeinnpateley.com has an enormous car park and so plenty of room to park up the various cars without the danger of any scrapes.
For next year, I’m tempted to save my pennies. We might spoil ourselves with lunch at the fabulous Yorke Arms, a mile or so further down the valley at Ramsgill http://www.theyorkearms.co.uk/
Bowcliffe Hall Drivers Club
Bowcliffe Hall appointed a motoring manager earlier in the year, and had a small gathering on the lawn to celebrate. Some outstanding classic cars were lined up on the lawn for all to admire.
The 2018 summer has been superb. Days and weeks of sunshine and dry roads ideal for classic car driving. Once again the weather did us proud at Bowcliffe where we all enjoyed a chance to admire some fabulous cars.
